HOW DOES IT HELP A CHILD ?
The board sparks curiosity, excitement, and helps the child feel less alone during eye patching. Their new friend – the Pirate – also has to wear an eye patch. And everything is easier when you’re in it together!
The child steps into the role of a hero, helping the Pirate reach the ship and return home as quickly as possible. Each time the eye patch is worn, the child can move forward on the board – getting closer to the goal step by step.
Along the way, the child:
• collects pirate attributes needed to set sail
• meets pirate friends and crew members
• creates a magical, fairytale world that distracts from the discomfort of wearing the eye patch
The child can see their progress and real achievements
Feels excited about discovering what the next magnets reveal
Learns basic English vocabulary in a natural and enjoyable way,
Feels proud of how much they have already accomplished
Colorful illustrations, smiling characters, and carefully designed details invite the child to experience the adventure together every single day.
HOW DOES IT HELP A PARENT ?
The board oRers parents powerful tools to support their child:
Enables active involvement in the treatment process,
Encourages quality time spent together at the board
Allows the reward system to be tailored to the individual needs of the child and the whole family,
Makes it easier to explain, talk, and motivate – without pressure or stress
FROM THE AUTHOR
Out-of-this-world ideas are born at the Embassy of the Universe!
Amblyopia , commonly known as " lazy eye" , is a neurodevelopmental disorder in which one eye has significantly poor vision, despite the absence of organic damage to the visual organ.
My son David was diagnosed with this disorder when he was 5.5 years old. That's when his adventure with eye patching began—one of the primary methods of therapy.
For a child with high sensitivity and intense sensory experiences, this was a huge challenge. Tight sleeves, itchy labels, stiff material, or a jacket that was too warm could cause discomfort and frustration. Not to mention wearing a patch over the eye for several hours—as much as 6–8 hours a day in the first phase of therapy.
Over the years, we tested various solutions—eye patches, eyeglass stickers—all to increase comfort and ease daily functioning. There were some truly challenging days, both for David and for us, his parents, who tried to support him through this process.
At some point I started wondering:
How can this be made easier?
How can you support your child, keep them interested and help them persevere in therapy until the patch is no longer needed?
It was from these questions that the idea for a unique magnetic board was born – a tool of support, motivation and small everyday successes.
I look back with a smile on the first hand-drawn prototype from May 2021.
I'm thrilled that this project has become a reality and can support many children and their families in their eye patching process. I already know that many families are using the board to motivate their children in many other daily tasks, such as brushing their teeth, reading a book daily, or making their bed.
I believe that creative ideas breed further creative solutions, which is why this board has enormous potential – to serve, empower, and bring relief.
